At Portland Vets Horley, every thought has been taken to ensure you and your pet’s visit is as low-stress as possible. There is ample onsite, level parking and step-free access into our spacious, bright reception area, with plenty of space for pets who need it and dog stops for when you need an extra pair of hands. It is one of the reasons we are a Dogs Trust Dog Friendly accredited practice.
Our three consultation rooms are large and bright, so that our vets can give your pet a thorough, unhurried examination, with room for all the family. As a Cat Friendly Silver accredited practice, we take our cat facilities seriously. You will find cat carrier shelves in the waiting area and, because cats tend to feel safer when they are up higher, cat climbing shelves in the consulting rooms.
Many routine blood and urine tests can be run in our advanced in-house laboratory, meaning results often come back sooner than sending them to an external laboratory.
We also have digital x-ray and ultrasound onsite for a closer look inside, so we can often investigate quickly and safely without your pet needing to travel elsewhere.
Our theatre is modern and equipped with advanced monitoring equipment, ensuring our clients have peace of mind if their pet undergoes surgery. We have a dedicated dental suite which covers everything from a routine scale and polish to extractions, with digital dental x-ray to check the health of each tooth below the gum line. More complex dentistry and oral surgery can be carried out at our East Grinstead practice, where we have dedicated facilities for advanced dental procedures.
When your pet is poorly or recovering from a procedure, they may spend time on one of our day wards. Cat and dog wards are separate, which means your pet can rest away from the stress of other species. Each ward is fully climate controlled and mechanically ventilated to create an optimal recovery environment. We use calming plug-ins, gentle background sounds and comfortable bedding throughout for your pet’s comfort and wellbeing.
Our dog ward has extra-large walk-in kennels with orthopaedic mattresses and plush vet beds, ideal for larger breeds, senior dogs and dogs who may need a little more support. Cat patients benefit from glass-fronted kennels and cat castles, so they can climb up high or tuck themselves away where they feel safest.
If your pet is staying with us for the day, you are welcome to bring a favourite blanket or toy from home to help them feel at ease. When it is time to go home, we hold discharge appointments in one of our consultation rooms rather than at a busy front desk, giving you a calm, private space to go through aftercare and ask any questions.
For patients who require overnight inpatient care, this is a service we offer at our Crawley practice six days a week, reducing the need for out-of-hours care elsewhere. This will be discussed with you at the time.
